It is important that the saddle is comfortable for both the rider and the horse! An improperly fitting saddle may create pressure points on the horse's back muscle (Latissimus dorsi) and cause the horse pain and can lead to the horse, rider, or both getting injured.
Over 90% of behaviour and back problems with horses are caused by ill fitted saddles. Areas commonly over-looked, when fitting a saddle, are:
Saddle is bridging
Bars or panels are not centred
Bars are too long
Rigging in the wrong place
Not enough contact between saddle and the back of the horse
Too much padding between the horse and the saddle
Mark comes to your barn and checks up to 3 saddles per horse whether one of them fits your horse AND you! A regular Saddle fitting will take between 2-4 hours and you will get loads of information.
